Angion Method 1 vs 2: Movements and Routine Entries
Understand the upper-side thumb movement and underside finger movement used to distinguish AM1 and AM2 in BananaUp, including manual selection and when to stop.
Key points
Finding both AM1 and AM2 after searching for Angion can make the numbers look like stages to complete in order. In BananaUp, the distinction is location and hand movement. AM1 describes a thumb movement along the dorsal, or upper, side. AM2 describes sequential finger movements along the underside. The numbers are not weeks in a programme or levels you unlock.
These are the app’s routine definitions. When another page uses the same name, check the movement it describes before choosing a matching entry in your own history.

AM1 uses the upper side; AM2 uses the underside
The AM1 guide describes repeated sliding thumb movements along the upper side. AM2 uses a rhythm of several fingers moving in sequence underneath. Neither entry includes a tight grip that restricts circulation.
The illustrations use a plain cylindrical model to show hand placement and direction. An arrow is not a force setting or a required travel distance. The model is not shown as something to stretch longer.
How these differ from Kegels and manual stretching
Kegels involve gently contracting and releasing the pelvic floor internally. Moving tissue with a hand is a different action. The pelvic-floor guide also covers the erect variation for readers noticing a slight lift during a contraction.
A manual stretch concerns lengthwise movement, while a rotary stretch changes the direction around a circle. These have their own entries rather than being interchangeable with upper- or underside finger movement. The traction article distinguishes those manual names from medical devices.
Pain means ending the activity
Stop immediately for pain, numbness, discoloration, swelling or bruising. Do not switch from AM1 to AM2 to see whether you can continue after discomfort. Persistent symptoms or urinary problems need medical advice; genital-area injuries can affect nerves and blood vessels (NIDDK, n.d.).
The app sets no pressure, speed or holding-time target. There is no requirement to add repetitions or minutes before an entry counts as complete. If you stopped, record the reason rather than trying to finish a quota.
Add the chosen entry yourself
AM1 and AM2 are advanced entries that you select manually from the library. They are excluded from automatic onboarding plans, weekly suggestions, Routine Finder and AI recommendations. This rule is independent of Free or Premium; Free users can view the guides and log the activity.
For example, if you used the underside finger movement, choose AM2 rather than putting both methods under a vague “Angion” note. Mark completion or skipping and add actual minutes only if useful. For the distinction from other local care, see massage and heat care.
